Beginning on October 11th, Delta 8 THC will be regulated in the state of Michigan.

Delta-8 THC, a synthetic cannabinoid derived from cannabidiol (CBD), will be regulated in Michigan starting in the fall of 2018.

On this issue, Governor Whitmer signed a bill that will result in new legislation being passed.

Delta-8 THC is structurally similar to the cannabinoid Delta-9 THC, but it does not have a psychoactive effect as strong as Delta-9 THC.

Confusion erupted after this drug was made available for purchase in convenience stores, gas stations, and smoke shops across the state. Rep. Yousef Rabhi, D-Ann Arbor, believes that new legislation is required to protect the public's health and safety.

"We are well aware that outright banning these substances is not the most effective method of protecting the public." But we also know that these psychoactive compounds are currently being sold to anyone, regardless of their age, with no regard for public health standards."

Rob Robar is the owner and founder of The Helping Friendly Hemp Company in Madison Heights, Michigan. He is also a certified hemp farmer.

He is a manufacturer and distributor of Delta-8 THC products.

Robar expressed relief that Michigan did not impose a complete ban on marijuana, but he expressed some reservations.

According to Robar, "I am relieved that we are not talking about a complete and outright prohibition of this particular cannabinoid." 'On the other hand, it does create some difficulties for a large number of people who are currently providing these services to the public.' It's going to severely restrict the number of players who can be involved."

As a result of the high cost of licensing, Robar believes the new legislation will have a chilling effect on small-scale hemp producers like himself.

According to him, "a significant amount of additional investment will be required when it comes to licensed cannabis space."

Robar has been working on getting Governor Whitmer to sign this legislation for quite some time. It was something he saw as inevitable, and he even went so far as to lay off 6-7 manufacturers and phase out his Delta-8 products as a result of it.

And, as Robar pointed out, this is not only true in Michigan, but is also true in other states across the country.

Since late June, at least 14 states have banned or restricted the use of Delta-8 THC. These states include the following: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas; Colorado; Delaware; Idaho; Iowa; Kentucky; Mississippi; Montana; New York; Rhode Island; Vermont; and Utah.

Michigan's new legislation governing Delta-8 THC products will require the state's regulatory agency to conduct testing in the future.

Among other things, the package of bills brings up-to-date definitions for products derived from the cannabis plant.

Beginning on October 11th, the new policies will be in effect.
